The game is over, and the first things that stand out are the defense. The defense showed a few different things tonight, and they stepped it up again with a strong showing on 3rd down defense. These guys are playing with a mission, more intensity, swarming to the ball. We’re seeing a whole other level of defense out there now. Jason Garrett has this offense firing on all
MVP of the 2nd half has to be CB Joey Thomas. Thomas furthered his climb up the ladder, and looks to be the #5 CB. The defense stayed solid with the #2s and other backups. Tyson Thompson is solid. Austin stunk it up again in the 2nd half, not sure what happened to him tonight. On the other hand, Stanback got on the field and performed Stanback made a TD. Here are my notes from the
The defense is going to be stout this year. The defense was able to man handle that Bronco offensive line, which are usually the guys delving out the punishment, not tonight! Swarming tackles are back in Big D. Miles Austin had a horrible 1st half. A lot of errors from the young WRs. Nick Folk connects on a 52yrd FG, Gramatica misses from 51yrds out. Here are my notes from the 1st
Last time the Cowboys played the Denver Broncos was in 2005, in which the Cowboys suffered a gut wrenching loss on Thanksgiving Day. It was 21-21, and (then) running back, Ron Dayne busted through sloppy tackling for a huge gain, which put the Broncos in FG position for the win. Ok, so that’s last time. This time the Cowboys have a new defensive system where swarming tackles
Its never too early to take a look at some potential prospects for the 2008 draft. In, the 2008 NFL Draft we will enjoy the luxury of having (2) 1st round draft picks. Of those two picks, one has the potential to be a top 5 at best and top 10 pick at worst. I don’t see the lowly Browns winning more than 6 games this year. As for what position we may need to address in the
That’s right, Isaiah Stanback has finally made it to the field for practice. Stanback, has been looking nothing like a 4th pick; but rather, and possible draft pick bust. The jury is still out on the latter, as the Cowboys had hoped to plant him as the primary punt returner. That has yet to materialize, and the Cowboys are still looking at having Newman back there. Crayton
After seeing the Cowboys live in training camp, and watching them in their first preseason game against the Colts, I’ll take an early look at who is likely to make the 53-man roster. September 1st, is when all NFL rosters must be trimmed down to the mandated 53-man roster size. First wave of cuts will be on August 28th. Now, let’s take a look at who’s in and
You have to feel good about this first live action game, as the Cowboys defeated the Colts 23-10. The Cowboys pretty much dominated both sides of the ball. A solid debut is exactly what the Cowboys needed as a whole, and its what Romo needed. Some questions have definitely been answered. You can just see there’s a whole new camaraderie forming between the coaches and players.
Tomorrow Phillips and Garrett make their live game debut in what should be a loud, frenzy-fanpacked Texas Stadium. Everyone, and I mean, everyone is waiting to see how Phillips’ defensive retooling will make the Cowboys more competitive this year. We’ll get a taste of it tomorrow night. Same goes for Jason Garrett; moreover, Garrett was the first coach hired after Parcells
Last year, the Cowboys managed to slow down the Colts high-octane offense. In doing so, the Cowboys defeated the Colts 14-21. So, the Parcells 3-4 was effective, and the Cowboys offense kept pace. This year the Cowboys will be running the attacking Phillips 3-4, which brings constant pressure on the QB at all times. The Cowboys should be able to slow down the Colts first team offense
Thursday’s game against the Colts cannot get here soon enough. The defense and offense are really getting after each other, and today there was a small skirmish between some offensive players; Julius Jones, Deon Anderson, against defensive FS Patrick Watkins. Apparently Waktins was coming off a blitz and Julius picked up the blitz and basically slammed Watkins to the ground.
With the Cowboys first preseason game of the year coming this Thursday, the Cowboys will have plenty of opportunity to execute some of the attacking defensive schemes Wade Phillips has installed in Dallas. We won’t see the whole arsenal obviously, but I would expect the Cowboys to make it a point to make some stops this time around. When Ellis went down last year, the defensive
