Position Breakdown: Defensive Line

KEY PLAYERS Jay Ratliff – It was a down year for the defense as a whole, but top players like DeMarcus Ware and Terence Newman still had a high level of statistical production.  The same cannot be said for Ratliff, who disappeared both from the box scores and the highlight tapes.  I theorized about Ratliff’s struggles and possible solutions in a previous blog (link), but

Position Breakdown: Quarterbacks

I thought I’d do a series of breakdowns of the different spots on the team.  I’ll be looking at last year’s players, players recently taken in the 2011 Draft, free agent prospects, and sound strategies for next year.   To begin this series, I’m looking at easily the most stable group for the team right now; the quarterbacks. KEY PLAYERS Tony Romo –

Presumptuous Parting Shots

Before the NFL Draft and especially now in its aftermath, Cowboys fans have been speculating what 2010 players will not be with the team next season.  My CowboysBlog colleague gave his thoughts on Roy Williams’ future in a post yesterday (link).  I actually disagree with Joe and think Roy will still be with us next season, but we’ll get to him later.  For now, here

This was two years in the making, but the time has finally arrived. The Cowboys have finally cut ties with OLB/DE Greg Ellis. The roster purge has been completed on both sides of the ball. Ellis was a good player, pretty solid, but in following the theme of change and locker room chemistry, Ellis is out in Dallas. Anthony Spencer and the rookies will now shoulder the full load at

The Cowboys have had a busy offseason, the changes Jerry said would happen, have indeed happened, but more on the player side. With Owens released yesterday, the Cowboys wasted no time in releasing another high profile name in Roy Williams. Roy Williams had two good seasons in Dallas, and garbage the rest of the way. I’m legitimately happier about the Roy Williams release

Here’s a list of current players set to hit the market this coming offseason: QB     Brooks Bollinger UFA WR     Miles Austin       RFA WR     Sam Hurd          RFA DL     Tank Johnson     UFA LB     Zach Thomas     UFA Christ Canty, Kevin Burnett, and Keith Davis round out the

Today’s headlining news is the release of WR Terry Glenn, no big surprise here, I knew he would get released, I just thought it would have been sooner. There’s also a slim chance he could rejoin the team later down the line, but its more likely he sign for cheap in Miami, that’s my guess. We’ll see. Share

Looks like Pacman Jones is coming to Dallas, whether we like it or not…The Cowboys are in talks to acquire Pacman Jones for a late round pick, Its probably going to be our 6th rounder we acquired in the Ferguson trade, we now have the first pick of the 6th round, the Dolphins have our late 6th rounder.. I’m 100% against this. You cannot put Pacmans offield problems in

Michael Turner has signed on with the Atlanta Falcons, and he’s getting paid some bucks. 6yrs for $34.5 million $15million guaranteed. We’ll probably see Julius Jones get snagged up next in free agency, and may end up with a crazy contract in this wild spending spree we’re seeing this offseason. Do you think Turner is getting overpaid? I think this is in line with

NFL Free Agency is in full effect today, and several teams wasted no time in revamping their rosters. If you’re anxiously awaiting the Cowboys to make a big splash, don’t…The Cowboys don’t have much money left under the cap to make a big signing. Most of our money has been gobbled up by signing our own potential free agents. The Cowboys have been very pro

Zach Thomas is expected to sign with the Cowboys after his meeting with Cowboys brass (dc.com). Zach Thomas has had a great career, but has also suffered several concussions because of his hard hitting physical play. Expect Thomas to battle it out for starting position. Zach Thomas is an immediate upgrade over Akin Ayodele, who by some is considered just a body filling that MLB

DMN’s Calvin Watkins is reporting that the Cowboys will allow Flozell Adams to test the free agency market. The Cowboys will see where his price goes, and if its too high it’ll be Pat McQuistan battling it out for starting LT next season. Calvin “Lucky” Watkins reports that the Cowboys will let Flozell Adams test the open market before extending a deal to
