Rumors of Releasing Owens Are Ridiculous

January 8th, 2009 by Joe Rodriguez

I’ll be the first to admit when Jerry Jones pondered signing TO I was against the idea, but I got onboard and I have been a supporter since the start. He’s been a playmaker at the WR spot, something we absolutely did not have since Irvin. Owens has not been a problem in Dallas, I think he’s getting bad writeups and rumors are being stirred up by the press about his potential release for the simple fact that some in the media just don’t like TO.

Owens has been great for the offense; however, the offense as a whole took a big step backwards, and because he spoke up, people want him out of here, its ridiculous. Yes, we have Roy Williams, but is he’s a solid #1 WR? Owens is still a better skilled player in my opinion, there’s only a few I’d take over Owens right now. Losing Owens, and “seeing what happens” with just Roy Williams could be a complete disaster and set us back even further.

This offense needs two big play receivers, and if that’s what Garrett envisioned, ala Irvin/Harper, then releasing Owens would kill that plan. If you release Owens, you better have a solid plan B, like signing Anquan Boldin, that’s the only thing I would go for otherwise, stay the course and get Roy Williams working with Romo all offseason.

This team needs better coordination and coaching on offense, and leadership from the head coach, which just isn’t there right now. But releasing Owens is just a dumb idea.

Cowboys 2009 Draft Picks

December 29th, 2008 by Joe Rodriguez

With the Cowboys horrendous season in the books its time to look forward to the 2009 Draft. Our draft picks have changed with the Roy Williams trade and the Adam Jones suspension. We will have a total of (9) draft picks and they are as follows:

1st Round: NONE (traded to Detroit)
2nd Round: Dallas
3rd Round: Dallas from Cleveland
4th Round: Dallas & Dallas from Detroit (from 2008 draft trade)
5th Round: Dallas & Dallas from Tennessee (Pacman suspension compensation)
6th Round: Dallas from Miami (from Ferguson trade)
7th Round: Dallas & Dallas from Detroit (from Roy Williams trade)

When its all said and done, with the extra picks we had after the 2008 draft, we basically traded just our 1st rounder, we still have picks in every round except the 1st.

Our 2nd round pick will be a little after the mid-part of the round

Our 3rd round pick was acquired in a 2008 draft day trade, and its a good pick, its going to be in the top of the 3rd since the Browns had a bad season it bodes well for us.

Our 4th round picks are solid as well, we have our own pick and the top pick in the 4th round, basically a late 3rd rounder since Detroit lost all their games.

Our 5th round picks are ok, middle to late part of the round depending how deep the Titans go.

6th round pick was picked up when we shipped Ferguson to Miami, this pick could be a later pick depending how far the Dolphins go.

Our 7th round picks are good too, again, we have our own pick, plus the top pick in that round from Detroit.

Cowboys Add Explosive WR Roy Williams

October 14th, 2008 by Joe Rodriguez

Breaking NEWS:

Cowboys acquire WR Williams from Detroit

Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Dallas Cowboys, Roy Williams

The Lions have traded WR Roy Williams to the Cowboys for at least one first round pick. More details to come.

Let the insanity begin!!!

About the compensation, from DC.com:

IRVING, Texas - In a bold move to inject some Pro Bowl production into a battered offense, the Cowboys acquired Detroit Lions receiver Roy Williams just before the NFL’s 3 p.m. (CDT) trade deadline.

The Lions will receive the Cowboys’ 2009 first-round pick, a third-round pick and sixth-round pick. The Cowboys get Detroit’s 2009 seventh-round pick in the Williams trade, plus Tennessee’s 2009 fifth-round pick now that cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones has been suspended at least four games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

Williams, who has been involved in trade rumors for weeks, instantly provides a speed complement opposite Terrell Owens and a big target for backup quarterback Brad Johnson, who has been ushered into the starting lineup with Tony Romo (fractured right pinkie finger) expected to miss about a month.

Williams is scheduled to be a free agent after the season. The former University of Texas star has expressed a desire to return to his home state, and the winless Lions’ decision to trade their best offensive player signals a directional shift under new management (longtime GM Matt Millen was fired two weeks ago).

Through the first six games, Williams has 17 catches for 232 yards and a touchdown.
